Highland Capital Management L.P is a firm with experience in alternative asset management and is a registered investment adviser. It has announced a $1M challenge grant award to Family Place Legacy Campaign. The award will help raise the final $2.8M for the $16.5M fundraiser that has been running for about a year. The grant will be administered through Highland Dallas Foundation. Family Place is an organization that supports victims of family violence. The victims are provided with life-changing services and life-saving shelters.
The Legacy Campaign aim is to support the operations and construction of a new Central Dallas Counseling Centre that will be named Ann Moody Place. The facility will have 13 emergency bedrooms, private and group counseling rooms, a call center and spaces for job training. It will also have medical and dental clinics, an animal shelter and an onsite child development center. The Be Project which is involved in education to prevent bullying and teen dating violence will be housed at the new facility.
James Dondero is a credit and equity markets expert with more than 30 years experience. He is the co-founder and the current president of Highland Capital Management L.P, where he oversees operations and investment strategies for retail and institutional products. Since 1993, he has led the company in offering award-winning products and solutions and is among the pioneers of Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO).
James is a graduate of the University of Virginia with majors in Finance and Accounting. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Management Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant. In 1984, he joined the Morgan Guaranty training program after graduating. He joined the American Express as a corporate bond analyst and later became Portfolio Manager. James also worked as a chief investment officer at Protective Life’s GIC subsidiary where he helped it grow.
Dandero serves as chairperson of the board of CCS Medical Corporation, Cornerstone Healthcare and NexBank. James serves on the board of MGM Studios and American Banknote.
The philanthropist supports veteran’s affairs, education and public policy activities. According to NexBank, James Dandero has supported Education is Freedom, Perot Museum of Natural Science, George W. Bush Presidential Library and Institute, SMU’s Tower Scholars Program and Snowball Express Institute among others.
